Join the Classic Car Club of America, Cadillac & LaSalle Club, Buick Club of America, and Lincoln & Continental Owners Club on Saturday, Oct. 3. We will depart from Westfield at 10:00 a.m. On our way to the covered bridge country of Putnam and Parke Counties, we will pass through small-town Indiana, seeing historic Danville and Greencastle. Once in Putnam County, we’ll drive through a working covered bridge and take a winding scenic route to Parke County before turning southward toward Brazil. Lunch will be at Pappy’s BBQ, a local favorite for over 20 years.

From there, it is a short jaunt on the Old National Road, historic U.S. 40, to Terre Haute. You’ll know that we’re getting close when you see the restored Clabber Girl billboard announcing “Five minutes to Terre Haute,” as it has for decades. Once in the revitalized downtown, we’ll visit the Larry Bird Museum, part of the city’s convention center. From there, it is a short walk to the Swope Art Museum. You’ll see paintings from regionally and nationally known artists in the freshly renovated galleries. The third museum, the Vigo County History Center, is just around the corner.

We’ll finish the day with supper at M. Mogger’s Restaurant & Pub. Housed in an 1836-vintage former brewery, Mogger’s has been a favorite of locals and Indiana State University Sycamores since 1996.

As the sun begins to dip, we’ll head back toward Indianapolis via the Ohio Boulevard-Deming Park Historic District. You’ll see spectacular homes dating from the early 1900s through some mid-century modern gems, plus the 1927-vintage Woodrow Wilson High School and The Meadows, opened in 1956 as Terre Haute’s first modern shopping mall.

This event is pay-as-you-go. Meals at the restaurants are in the $15-$25 range. Admission to the Larry Bird Museum and Swope Art Museum is free, but the Vigo County History Center is $7.
